"Barren land. Most people who wander out there die from starvation or lack of water. Only animals can survive out there because they know how to live off the land. That's why we humans stay in the towns." Alexis replied as she stared at the gate, a small chill running up her spine.

"That's it? Just dead land?" Amata repeated. "That's not right....." She added. "You know what I think? I think somewhere out there is a huge green prairie, filled with trees and white flowers, lakes and clear waters, tons of animals, and no pollution" She said. "I know that it's out there somewhere...I can feel it" She added. Of course, Amata had never heard the human version of the legend of paradise...but she had a vision of this place before in her dreams. She couldn't help but feel it was real.

Alexis was a little confused at first, but soon she smiled warmly down at Amata. "Well if it's real then maybe you'll find it someday." she said. Although she knew something like that wasn't real, she just didn't want to crush Amata's fantasy. The only time there had been a place like that was hundreds of years ago when not the whole world was polluted. That was all in the past though.

"Oh, it's real" Amata said as she smiled at Alexis. The cluods broke then, finally letting some sun rays shine through. The city still looked bleak and depressing, but Amata semed overjoyed to see the sun.

Alexis looked up into the sky as the sun began to shine through the clouds, and the rain stopped. With a small sigh, she closed up her umbrella, stuck it under her arms, and then looked down at Amata. "Any idea where this friend of yours might be? If we're lucky we might be able to find her before nightfall." she said warmly.

"no. I lost her scent right here" She said as she shook her head, and then pointed to where she had been sitting. "I don't even know if I was following the right trail!" She said with an embarassed sigh.

"Did you just say scent?" Alexis said, not sure if she had heard Amata correctly.

"yeah." She said before suddenly being interrupted by an intense growling. It came from her stomach. She blushed in embarassment. "oh...uh....I guess I haven'y eaten in awhile..." She blushed an even darker shade.

Alexis smiled as she heard Amata's stomach growling. "Well I can take care of that. There's a small cafe close by that has good food for a cheap price. Interested?" she asked, offering to buy her something to eat.

"sure! ... but what;s a cafe?" Amata asked with a cocked head. From a human point of view, Amata appeared to be a simple, poor girl, who most likely lived in a crappy home or on the streets.....

"It's a small place that serves you food. You have to pay for it though, but your in luck. I have some money on me right now so we're covered." Alexis said as she began to lead Amata in the direction of the cafe.

"huh.I dunno what Money is, but ok" She said as she followed to the Cafe. When she entered, she immediately took in the scents of the air. It smelt wierd....very wierd.

Alexis was a little surprised by Amata's actions, but when they entered the cafe, she decided it was nothing. She led her over to one of the tables, and one of the waitresses came over. Alexis ordered a burger with some fries, and then turned to Amata. "What do you want to eat? Anything on the menu." she said, smiling.

Amata stared at the menu. It contained strange markings....and pictures of ...was that meat cooked? "um...." she turned the menu sideways. Maybe she was holding the menu wrong? Ugh. This was getting her nowhere....she needed to learn how to read...

Alexis laughed slightly at how Amata was dealing with the menu. Obviously she didn't know how to read. "She'll have the same." she told the waitress, before turning back to Amata. "So you can't read, and you don't know what money or cafes are. That's pretty uncommon." she said, getting a little curious about Amata's past. She had no idea that the young girl before her wasn't human at all, but really a wolf.
