"Oo, butterfly," called out a small voice. The sodden pup padded out as the colourful insect fluttered past, unable to reach it, locked in her mother's jaws as she was. She quickly lost interest, and began to examine her soaked fur, which fell downwards off her legs and body. Recently her creamy, fluffy pelt had begun to change into a solid pelt of light silver, a streak on her stomach, as well as a few other small areas, tinted a mixture of rust and grey. A mixture of her mother's silvery coat, and her father's grey and rust pelt.
Aura meanwhile was silent. Well, you try talking while you're holding a wolf pup gently in your mouth. She too was sodden from head to toe, after the long swim over the water. Still, being soaked and lost on this island was much better than being frozen and dead on the tundra. As the last reaches of the sea fell behind them, she dropped Fleur on the ground with care. The pup immediately shot down the beach, eager to investigate the foreign feeling of sand beneath her paws. Meanwhile, her exhausted mother flopped down on the sand, front legs ahead of her, rear legs slightly to the side, stretched out behind. She sighed with relief as she felt the water drip off her slender body. At last, they were safe. For now, at least.

Kongo quickly folded the soft white hammock into the trunk. He knew his mother would scold him for the sloppy handiwork, but there was no time to lose. His father Kalus, and his SeaShore pack, had an exciting discovery: Newcomers from the Silver Islands! Kongo had been around Island and Prarie wolves all his life, and had not yet seen any other variants. His imagination went crazy trying to determine what they looked like. Were they big? Kongo Wondered, Did they have fluffy fur? Do they like fish?
Just as he stepped foot off the cozy ricebed, a tall shadow loomed over him. "Where do you think you're going? Please dont tell me you're gonna talk to the fish again! And did you bid farewell to your mother?"
"But Uncle Min, theres newcomers from the Silver Islands!" whined Kongo. Meanwhile, he was slowly backing up, closer to the crystal river. If only he could get closer.... WOOOSH! Water sprayed Min, leaving Kongo a straight path to the seashore.
At his arrival, Kalus excitedly carried Kongo towards the newcomers. "I hear they have been traveling a long way. I hope they didnt swim here.... Oh! And Kongo, I hear theres a Konuknuk there! A child wolf!" At this news, Kongo stiffened up. He had never seen another child wolf before.... He hoped the child was fun, like him.
When they reached the newcomers, Kalus and two other males lifted the larger mother, while Kongo was forced to carry the child. This is going to be interesting, Kongo thought....

"Wah?" Said Fleur in confusion, padding at Kongo's face with her fluffy paws, as she tried to work out what this thing was. It couldn't be a human. For one thing, he wasn't trying to kill them, for another, he smelt of wolf. "Who's you?" She said in her slightly shakey grammar. There came a whispered "hush" from Aura, who was also looking around at the two males carrying her. She spoke out clearly, "Well, my daughter does have a point. Who are you?"

Kongo, still shocked at meeting a different wolf, shakily replied, "Im Kongo, and this here's the Seashore Wolf Pack. We are not going to harm you, rather, we are going to take you to our grounds, where you can get proper medical attention." He readjusted his back to keep Fleur comfortable. Almost stepping on an urchin, he swerved and hit Kalus, knocking everyone down.
"Kongo! Watch where you step!" chided Kalus, "You might hurt the child! And as for you two, please dont make an effort to move. You must be treated with proper medical care. And, may I ask, who are you"

Aura sighed. "Look, we aren't hurt. Just hungry. The tundras don't make you ill, they starve you and freeze you. I'm still not sure how we got through." Fleur squirmed delightedly, in the safety of this .. well, this thing's grip. She gave a little bark of joy, and then her mother continued. "I'm Aura, and this is my daughter Fleur."

Kalus readjusted, and returned walking. "Are you sure? That sea is rough! Well, if you're not hurt, then at least well get you some food, and a good night's rest. Hmm.... Do you like fish? How about coconut simmered deer?"
Kongo smiled slightly at the young wolf's delight. He was happy that she was a light and easygoing wolf, who didnt mind his carelessness. He trotted a little faster, keeping up with the others.

ooc: Fear the plot! bic: A soft wind wisped past the island, carrying a silent song with it. unkown to the wolves on the island, Kuraku's voice has reached their ears. Sooner then later, they'd head her call.....they'd follow her voice....they'd search for paradise.

Fleur's ears pricked up. The beautiful melody drifted past, a lovely, but slightly haunting tune. The same call that had been so distant when it had pulled them through the tundras, now it was so clear she was amazed the others didn't hear. Then again, her mother had not heard the call to begin with in the tundras. Maybe pups were more receptive to it? She looked up at the wolf carrying her. He seemed young too, maybe he could hear it. Up-front as ever, she whispered up to him, "Can you hears that?"

Kongo froze as the swift song floated past his ears. The tune sounded familiar..... As if......
"Kongo! Would you hurry up? I know snails that are faster than you!"
Suddenly, it hit him: Every night, when he was a young pup, his dad and mom would hum a sweet melody.... A melody of hope and happiness...... His eyes shut tight, trying to remember what it was called, when he heard Fleur's voice. "Uh, yeah. What is it? Its so.... Sad, almost like it is hurt, yet hopeful of a new beggining. I wonder if my dad can hear it. He used to sing it to me when I was a pup. I just wish that I knew what it is....."
They small pack then reached the grounds, where Kalus and the meal wolf went to prepare a large dinner, of local meats and foodstuffs. Kongo set Fleur next to Aura, in front of a thick coconut palm. "You two rest here while we prepare dinner, unless of course, you would like to come with us. Aura, can you do the Human Illusion? If so, you can travel with my dad to the Poi Human Market, and get some food. Fleur can play in the tide pools over there."

"I'm afraid not. The only contact we've ever had with humans is when they slaughtered our pack. I'll stay here, look after Fleur." She turned and walked off to follow Fleur, who had shot towards the afore-mentioned tide pools. Aura took her aside, and whispered so that they could not be heard, "You heard it didn't you?" "Uh-huh..." replied Fleur, a hint of fear in her voice. "Then we cannot stay. We have to leave. Tomorrow." At this, Fleur looked slightly disappointed. She was enjoying what little time she had spent here, and was taking a liking to Kongo. It would be a shame to leave so soon.

Kongo bid Kalus goodbye, and headed over to help the wolfs prepare the food. Three wolves hauled in an Island Deer, and set it in a pit, where certain leaves and fruits were strewn out like a bed. The deer was covered by palm leaves, and on top of that, many fish were laid out to smoke and cook. The aroma was delicious! It was hard for Kongo to not sneak a piece in.
Soon, the sun had set, and Kalus swam back from the market. In his jaws were many many strings of wood and glass, an omniscent red in the setting sun. He threw one into the sea, and walked up to Aura and Fleur. "Here, take one as a reminder of our Islands, and come back as soon as you can..... And yes, I heard the song. I heard it calling, a beacon of hope for us wolves. Something has gone wrong in this world we have, and Paradise, the land I've personally been searching for, has appeared. It is up to us to find it, and this Island may not be your place.... But be aware, the other Islands may not be as hospitable as we are.... Now come, it is time for us to eat."

"We are well aware of the dangers. And I believe there is something in that call we did not pick up, none of us did, except Fleur.. and your son Kongo. They are still in their first 18 months of life, they are more receptive to the messages within that song. The call often rings out, but this time it was different, and those two could sense it. For one it was loud enough that we could hear it, when normally we wuld hear nothing but a whisper. Kuraku is nearby. Or was nearby. And it isn't the usual song of hope. It is a call, the same that dragged us out of the tundras alive and well, when we were both ready to curl up and die. Wolves are gathering at a meeting place for something. Paradise may be about to reveal just a glimpse of it's glory, and wolves are being called to the place of the miracle. We must make the journey, and it would be wise for some of your pack to as well.

"Hmm.... I see your point. Even so, something is stirring in our normally peaceful seas. A great force, larger than us wolves combined, is at hand, and I dont want to be in it's path. Yet, the only safe place now is paradise.... This is going to be a hard descision, and it will take time. Now I insist you eat before you go, because there will be no more feasts until paradise, and I would like to enjoy my last one if I am to go."
With that, Kalus left, hoping Aura and Fleur would follow. He knew she was right, and that they had to go, but he had lived on this Island for his whole life. He needed something to convince him.... Just then, Kongo re-appeared, with soot and sand in his fur.
"Dad! Can I go with you? I know you are leaving, and I want to come. Besides, Mom is coming, and so is Aura and Fleur! That song you used to sing to me.....I heard it in the wind, calling me to come.... You heard it too, right? We have to go!"
"No. You must stay here, and watch the Islands until we get back. Im going with a couple of the pack leaders, and you must be here to fill in for them. Besides, you are too young, and haven't yet grown in your swimming paws."
"But Fleur's going! Why can't I?"
"I cannot decide her fate, as it lies with her mother. Your fate is in my control, and I want it to be safe. You are staying here, end of story. Im sorry, but this is no thing to be lighthearted about. Im afraid something terrible is happening, and we have to get to Paradise before its too late."
"What is par-"
Kalus then walked away, trying to avoid the question his little mistake had created.

At that moment Aura appeared next to the two. "Actually Kalus, it would be better if Kongo does come with us. Alone. He is young, he has yet to learn of Paradise, and like Fleur he is more receptive to the messgaes within the song. Your pack needs you Kalus, you cannot desert them, and yet you cannot bring all of them with you. Kongo has something... different, to all of you. There is something about him which, when I am around him, makes me remember the song. And I do not mean the one we heard. The song as it was many years ago. Something has happened, everything is changing. So, what do you say? May Kongo journey with us."

The wind blew strong, a song from the east. As the silent howl ended, the ocean grew still. The world itself had suddenly calmed down. After a few moments of this strange calm, the winds once again picked up, and the waves came rushing back. The clouds in the sky were moving very fast. Paradise wouldn't wait forever.
