A lone figure wandered through the abandoned section of the city. No on seemed to live here, except for a few homeless people, but they wouldn't cause any trouble. The wolf jumped up onto a roof, over looking her surroundings. There were plenty of old buildings she could stay in, but no. She would rather sleep outside, than sleep in a place full of human stench.
Her name was Ai, a lone wolf who was never shown any for of kindness in her life. But who knows maybe one day. All she knew was that day hadn't come. Maybe never would. She didn't care. Her appearance scared off most people. Her coat was an odd color, and her eyes... Well lets just say most people thought she had eyes of a demon. That why no one liked her. They all thought she was a 'bad omen', a 'killer', and most of all, a 'demon.' She had been called so many things, that she had lost count of them. It just became a part of life. And being hated for most of he life, had turned her against the world. Even her own kind. If a wolf got to close to her, and seemed to be a threat, she would either kill it, or walk away, never interested in talking things out, or getting to know one another.
She rested her head on her paws, still looking at the buildings around her. I guess you could say she was being overly cautious.

Another figure walked apart from the wolf. A boy walked through the abandoned city. His hands were thrust into the pockets of a black leather jacket, and he hummed to himself as he walked. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a dark shape on the roof. He could make out a pointed head, and two paws, then realized that it was a wolf. He pushed a long strand of pale purple hair from his eyes. He really hated that colour, why couldn't it have been a normal colour. Then again, at least he stood out in a crowd, although his tall height did that anyway.
His reddish eyes glinted as a shaft of moonlight hit them. He made his way round to the back of the building, where he spotted a slightly rusted ladder, obviously an old fire escape. He climbed up slowly, when a section of rusted metal gave way under his foot, and he cursed as it fell away and hit the ground below with a dull clang. As he reached the top of the stairway he jumped, grabbing the edge of the flat roof, then getting his elbow over it, and swinging himself up onto it. He looked at the other wolf, then began to walk towards her, and suddenly he was gone. A black wolf padded silently along, amber eyes fixed on the other wolf. He reached the edge of the roof, and lay down next to her casually, waiting for her response.

Ai growled lightly when Daryl laid down next to her. She lifted her head, and looked at him with a slightly confused look. Her mixed eyes seemed to glow when the moon light hit them, making her appearance even more odd. "What gives you the right to bother me when I'm trying to sleep?" she asked simply, no longer growling, and only wanting an answer.

What gives you the right to bother me when I'm trying to sleep? Daryl looked at Ai, his amber eyes finding her silhouette against the black of night. They were both of darkly coloured pelts, and he in particular must have been invisible against the night sky. He wasn't quite sure how he had spotted her before. With a slightly bored voice, he replied, "Well, unless I've somehow missed the last hour or so, you were gazing at these building for some reason, not sleeping. But, here I am chatting to you freely, and I don't believe we've ever met before."

This city, a dome in shape, was also home to another wolf. Her name was Amata, and she was a rare Ethiopian beast. She sat in a dark alley, a simple young girl perhaps 10 or 11 years of age. She sat under a wilting old tree, perhaps the only one in this entire city, resting herself. Her jeans were ripped at the knee and her shirt was a imple orange tank. She sighed heavily. Her birthday was approaching soon. She could tell by the position of the stars. She decided she should rest. She crawled into ahole in the tree and layed down. To humans, she was just some street rat, resting in the only place she could find. To animals, she was a young wolf, sleeping in the only shred of nature in the city.

"One, I was preparing to go to sleep, and two, I'm not open to conversation." Ai replied, her double colored eyes showing a hint of discomfort. She laid her head back down, it facing away from Daryl. Deep down, she really did want to talk to someone, but her natural instinct that had been building up over the past year kept her from doing so. It kept screaming at her, telling her to attack, or run away, and that Daryl was only going to chase her off if she didn't. That's what always happened. But for some reason, she didn't. For one, she was too tired, and secretly, she enjoyed his company.

He said nothing, but simply lay his head on his paws and looked out. The moon drifted steadily across the inky black sky, and a single shaft caught the side of his face. His amber eyes seemed to glow under the light, and his balck fur began to shine slightly silver. In the distance the occasional car engine could be heard, or the siren of a police car. A small plane flew silently overhead, casting a shadow on the street below. Daryl then winced slightly, as he heard a loud crack, the unmistakeable blast of a gun, and a faint yelp. He shuddered at the thought that that poor wolf could easily have been him.

Amata leapt up into the tree at the blast of the gun.She looked down to see the bullet had only just missed her. She stared at the man, confusion locked in her eyes. Then he spit. "Come on ya mangy mutt" He growled. Amata was frozen in fear...he could see HER. the REAL her...

Ai seemed to have drifted off to sleep. Now bored, Daryl got up, and nimbly leapt down the steps, before departing down a side street. As he came back out into the light of the street lamps, he saw a dark silhouette of a man, a rifle in his arms, ready to aim. Up a nearby tree he saw the target. A dark figure was crouched in the top. A wolf? A girl? Or maybe...both? He quickened his pace, padding up behind the man. About a meter behind the hunter, the black wolf disappeared, and a tall boy walked towards him. In a fluid movement his hand reached inside his jacket and drew something short, black, and squarely shaped. The nose of the pistol pressed into the back of the hunter's head, and a low voice said,
"I suggest you don't move."

Ai awoke a few minutes after hearing the gunshot. Unlike Daryl, she wasn't too excited and willing to help the wolf in trouble. She was too cautious. Though she did jump down from the roof, and pad silently in the shadows, watching everything that was going on. Daryl was in his human form, holding his gun to the back of a man, and there seemed to be another like them, a child maybe, being the target. What an odd little scene of events...
It seemed that the man had backup, because soon the scent of dogs reached Ai's nose. Out of all things, she hated dogs and humans the most. Humans were destroying the planet, and dogs were just there to help them. The wolf's useless cousin who obeys man's every command in a heartbeat. It was a disgrace in Ai's eyes.
A small group of large dogs came running down an alley way, obviously there to help. But they didn't actually reach their destination, because before they even had a chance to show themselves to their master, Ai was already ripping them to shreds.
Sure she was out numbered, but dogs were easy to kill. She ripped at their throats, clawed at their stomachs, and tore off any flesh she could grab, and soon they all lay dead but one. It kinda looked like a wolf, but different, possibly a hybrid? A mix of wolf and dog? Most likely.
Ai didn't even know why she was doing this. Maybe it was because she was bored, maybe she just felt like letting her anger out, or maybe she was actually helping because she wanted to. The thought of that sent a small shiver down her spine. She had never helped anyone before...
The dog lunged at her, bitting at her throat, only to have Ai lock her jaws onto his back, and thrash him around, killing him after a few brief seconds. Now she would leave the human to Daryl, and watch in the shadows.

From the corner of his eye, Daryl spotted Ai take down a pack of dogs. He smiled slightly, and watched as she took every one of them down. He had let his guard down a moment too long. The hunter's elbow crashed into his stomach and he cursed. Before he knew what was happening the man had shoved him away, then fired. A bullet crashed into the wall next to him. Without thinking he raised the pistol and felt his whole brain count him down. Three. The hunter took a step closer and raised his gun. Daryl was back on his feet, gun ready, finger on the trigger. Two. The man's eyes focused down the barrel of the rifle, taking careful aim at the young boy in front of him. He had completely forgotten the girl, and hadn't even noticed the killing of his dogs, or the other wolf. One. Both fingers closed on the triggers of the two guns. Every nerve in Daryl's body was screaming, Do it! DO IT! He looked into the hunter's eyes, and saw nothing. Saw just coldness and ruthlessness incarnate. Saw pure humanity.
Zero. Both men closed their fingers on the triggers. Daryl got ther first. Bang! The first bullet flew out like a bat from hell. Bang! Bang! Two more followed, flying straight to their target. The first hit, and the man clutched his stomach. The second hit him in the chest, and the third in the head. Daryl saw, as if in slow motion, the hunter collapsing onto his knees, blood trickling from the bullet wounds. He raised the gun once more, and pulled the trigger. The final shot hit the man again in the face, right in his eye. With a thud, his head hit the ground. Daryl looked at the corpse for a moment, then slipped the pistol back into his jacket.

Amata had watched the scenes play out in horror. Her eyes were wide and seemed to stare in shock. Her whole body was in an uncontrollable shake. Her arms were wrapped around her chest to try to halt the shaking, but it didn't help. Her mouth was slightly open, her tail was between her legs.

Ai looked over at the much younger wolf, and felt slightly sorry for her. Ai had had to kill her own father at the age of one, so she knew what kind of shock the young one was in. With a sigh, she walked around the dead dogs, looking at each of them with her double colored eyes, and then looked at Daryl, who had just killed the human. Amata had just witnessed several deaths in a matter of minutes. No wonder she was scared!
Ai walked over to the tree, and sat a few feet from the entrance, looking at the pup. "Do you wanna come out, or do you play to sit there all night in cold shock?" she asked simply, with a slight warmth in her voice. That was surprising, even for Ai. She was never nice to anyone, but for some reason she felt like being nice to Amata. Odd... very odd...

Daryl looked down at the corpse with disgust, his eyes brimming with contempt. He closed them for a moment, then opened them and looked up at the silvery moon. He spat. A single bead of saliva fell, glistening in the light before it hit the chest of the dead man. He turned to the tree and walked towards it. He glanced down and nodded at Ai, as if to say, Thanks. He called up to Amata. "Sorry you had to see that kid. Need any help getting down?" He offered his hand upwards.

Amata flinched away from Dayrl when he reached up to her. She slowly made her way down, still shaking. She wasn't sure what to do, but pupp took over and she rushed to Ai, hiding her eyes in the females fur. She was completely defenseless, as the tears strayed from her eyes. You'd think Ai's eyes would scare her over to Daryl....odd huh?
