"I was with just Ai when we got out... then she asked where Amata was, and I said I didn't know, and she left..." replied Sorrou.

"Well, I just hope they found each other." Daryl fell silently. He was also wondering whether Saya had made it off the rooftops and away from the humans with Wahya and the other male who had appeared just before the humans.

"Yea..." said Sorrou quietly. "And I hope whoever was howling is friendly..."

"Or whatever." Said Daryl, not caring to explain as he quickened his pace, eyes fixed on the clifftops, ears pricked up as he strained to hear the howl again.

"What else howls?" Sorrou frowned as she matched her pace to Daryl's.

Sorrou glanced apprehensively at Daryl. "Don't worry," she said, even though Daryl's tone made her worried as well.

As usual, Daryl's face was set in a mask of..well, not really any recognizable emotion.

Sorrou couldn't get anything from Daryl's expression and gave up. "How far do you think the cliffs are?" she asked.

"A few minutes away, no more." He said gruffly, still focused ahead on the point where the sound was coming from.

"All right," said Sorrou, and kept quiet, deciding that Daryl would like to be left alone.

All around them there was an air of... strangeness. No birds sang in the woods to their left, the sea beyond the cliffs lay perfectly, almost unnaturally still. No clouds drifted in front of the moon, which bathed the crest of the cliffs in a strange silvery light.
