Somewhere in the frozen tundra lies an island buried in the ice and snow. When the world was warm, it was a pleasant island getaway nestled in the vast, warm ocean, but now the waters have frozen all around it making it little more than a large flat hill about the size of a town. On this island, a few meager houses still stand, and even fewer people live there. It is very remote, and strangers aren't welcomed warmly. Anio sat quietly on a bench completely frozen over by countless snow storms. She stared up at the sky and watched the snow fall slowly and speckle her black overcoat. "Anio! Get back to work! Break's over!" She got up and went to the butcher shop across the street. She had been working here as the butcher's assistant for a week now. The meat did look tempting, but if she ate any, then she wouldn't get payed. "I'll be back in a minute." He said. "Watch the register." He went in the back. Anio sat down at the front and rested her head on her hands. She stared at the money box.

A large wolf, even larger then a normal wolf's max size, was padding through the frosty wind. His thick muscles and dense fur were purfect to keep him warm....you'd never find a more wolfish looking beast in the tundra....
Kosei was keeping his head low and ears back. He had been traveling for awhile now, after leaving the town of man....and then he saw it. More man villages..... He sighed, but chose to go to the scattered homes. He smelt a blizzard on its way....

Anio was staring blankly at the box of money, waiting for the butcher to get back, when she caught a scent in the wind. A wolf scent. She lifted her head to look out the frosted window of the shop, but there was nothing there. Could she have just imagined it? "What are you looking at?" The butcher said, coming through the door with a bag of meat in his hands. Anio paused a second, but shook her head. "nothing." It was probably just the wind blowing in strange scents from the frozen sea. It had picked up lately. the butcher shrugged and continued his work.

Kosei reached the village, and quickly stood against a wall to get out of the wind. His fur was layered with snowflakes, but he didn't seem to mind. His breath came out in puffs of white, and he knew his paws would stick to the ice if he didn't keep moveing. He once again took into the snow. He smelt warmth nearby....an old home. That would be fine for the night.... He also smelt the scent of dogs around....humans and their pets....

Anio worked through the day quietly. When she shop closed down for the night, she stepped outside and sniffed the air. The scent was still there. It didn't matter. Even if there was a wolf, it wouldn't last long in this town. There was no food, save in the shops, and the temperatures were near unbearable during the night. She didn't mind this though. Her thick pelt was more than enough to keep her warm, and she actually preferred the cold to any kind of sweltering heat. Hopefully it would either move on or die, and she wouldn't have to worry about it causing trouble. She walked home in the thickening snow on the other side of town. Like so many others, the house she lived in was abandoned. Not many people could survive this way, but the ones who stayed could not make the trip out of this frozen place, so they were forced to stay here and live out their lives. She would actually be leaving soon. There was no need to stay when paradise was just another word. As soon as she had been payed, she would leave this cursed town and attempt to find some kind of help in her research. There had to be at least some mention of humans finding paradise, and she would find it. She opened the door of the old house, and her eyes narrowed. The wolf was right in front of her.

Kosei's large head looked up at Anio. Kosei was a large breed....the largest. It was obvious his build could protect him from the cold weather. He stood up, towering over the halfbreed. Although his legs weren't too long, his body was so muscular and massive, he was a titan in comparrison to the average wolf. His winter coat only made him appear bigger.
He made no move towards the halfbreed. He was a rather easygoing creature......size wasn't everything afterall.

The wolf was huge. It stood placidly in front of Anio, just staring at her, but didn't move. She looked at it angrily. "What are you doing here, wolf?" She snarled. In her wolf form, her fur bristled, but she barely ever used it. So in her human form, she clenched her fists and her striking silver eyes flashed in anger. She would not confront him, he was much too large, and she too peaceful by nature, but an old anger rose in her chest at the very sight of him. She hated all his kind.

Kosei could see and smell the difference in this 'wolf'. As an ancient and supposedly extinct breed, he had seen many kinds....and this infront of him was literally a mut. He stared her down, unblinking as he watched her eyes. His fur however was flat. He saw no threat in her. He didn't respond to her question....she seemed smart enough to know that a fight against him would be a fight against over one hundred pounds of nature...she'd lose her life.

Anio saw the look the huge wolf gave her. It made her even more angry. She swallowed her rising emotions, however, and took a deep breath. There was no need to get so excited. She needed to control herself a little more. None of this hate would help her deal with this stray wolf, and it certainly wouldn't make him go away. Besides, there was no use fighting this wolf. He could obviously overpower her in a second with his massive bulk of muscle, and she had never liked conflict much anyways. She looked at him more closely, and noticed for the first time what kind of wolf he was. "You're supposed to be extinct..." She said flatly. "Interesting..." She closed the door against the freezing winds and without another look towards him, she brushed the snow off her jacket and went over to an old wood burning stove. There was a kettle on the stove, and she picked it up and filled it with water to boil. She needed tea. She set the kettle down and put some dried leaves in. She then sat down in a chair and started a fire. She took a notepad and pen out of her coat pocket, made a small note to herself, and put the pad away, watching the fire burn and fill the house with warmth.

"So are you" Kosei grumbled as he finally laid down in some hay. Kosei's breed was thought to be extinct among wolves, but wolves in general were thought to be extinct among humans. Ah the irony. Kosei's ears perked as the roar of the wind grew more intense. The house itself creaked from the strain. He sighed. Who knows when the storm would end? He needed to move on, this beast of paradise, and find his family. He assumed his pack, or what remained of them, had gone to paradise. Afterall, it was his breed that the stories came from...

Anio stirred the fire a bit with the poker next to the oven. She knew what this wolf was. He was a dire wolf. His kind was supposedly one of the oldest wolves, and specifically the ones that started the rumors of paradise. Dispite her resentment for him being here now, he could actually help her with her research. She looked out at the blizzard through a boarded up window. It wasn't like he was going anywhere soon. When the tea was done, she got out a cup, poured it, and took a sip. The taste might have been less than appetizing to most of the canine species, but she had come to acquire a taste for certain human things in her travels. She looked at the wolf as he lay down in some hay on the floor. "What brings you to this frozen wasteland, wolf? Paradise would never be near such a cold and barren place as this."

"My buisiness is my own" Kosei said in his deep, yet soft tone of bark. He laid his massive head on his paws, and listened to the wind whistle past. Kosei wasn't big on socializeing much....

She nodded thoughtfully, and took another sip of tea. She had never known a wolf to be very talkative, and she had seen her fair share of them. This was why it was better to question humans, rather than wolves. They could never see her for what she really was, a half-breed, and this comforted her. They would never make judgments if all they saw was a young girl.

Kosei couldn't help but wonder what was up with wolves these days. He remembered that chatterbox of a wolf in the human town wanting paradise....and now here in the tundra's too? Something was happening, it must have been. Then his head rose. His ears perked and he listened. Through the howling of the intense wind, he heard something else. A distant cry no wolf should be able to hear through this storm. it ended just as quickly as it had started....this call.....to paradise.

Anio looked at the wolf. He had heard something. "What is it?" She strained to hear it, but could not.
