"What... is that?" Her entire body was shaking now. As much as she hated water, she hated whatever lived in it even more. She took a shaky step back and she could almost feel the water pushing its way into her lungs. She blinked, and she could remember so vividly that one day when she was so young. The water and the shadow in there with her. She took another step away from Kosei.

Kosei remained gripped onto the chunk of ice. He looked at Anio just as the shadow erupted from behind her. The ice shattered to reveal the form of a leopard seal. With a mighty growl the seal snapped at the wolf before returning to the water. Kosei had used this moment to ride the wave created by the beast, and leap onto the ice. Immediately he shook his fur out. Between him and Anio, was a giant gap of frozen water with scattered ice and a demon below.

At the sight of the seal, Anio bolted in the opposite direction, nearly falling into the water in her hurry. She was trying to get to Kosei. Obviously he had better qualifications to handle the sea monster lurking below. He seemed like he even knew what it was.
She felt the ice crack beneath her paws and stumbled back, getting farther away. Vaguely, she was aware of the dark shadow passing in and out of her line of sight. She wasn't sure who it was going for, and that made it all the more worse to think about. If it was going for Kosei, should she run while it was distracted, and if it was coming for her, would Kosei even want to help? She stood stock-still on the edge of the ice, frozen in place.
What should she do? She couldn't swim to him! That was impossible! Her eyes darted to the floating chunks of ice, stark white on the black water of the frozen ocean. They were big and looked strong enough to hold her... Oh, no... She wasn't going to jump either...

Kosei was calm about the situation, but when he glanced at Anio, he saw her panic. He sighed and sat down. The seal, he knew at that moment, would go for Anio - the easier meal. Kosei felt the ice buckle, before the shadow once again leapt up through the ice, and landed with another thud, breaking up more ice. "Jump across" Kosei ordered her. the gap was getting bigger, and now the ice behind Anio was cracking. Still, the ice floated gently between the two canines.

"Are you insane?!?" She snarled. "There's something the size of a bus in there and you want me to hop in!" She didn't finish yelling, because suddenly the world shifted and she felt the shock of icy water hit her hard. There was no more land, just a span of broken ice, her, and the shadow. She started to thrash in the water, trying to find anything she could to pull herself out. She reached for a small block of ice and scrambled onto it, shaking. It looked like Kosei was miles away to her, and if she fell in and there was nothing to grab, she knew she would drown. She looked around for the thing, and when something loud erupted from the water right behind her, she sprung to the next block of ice as a reflex. Okay. Now only a hundred more to go.

Kosei's tail was stiff and straight. "Hurry up!" he growled. A true wolf could make these jumps easy...what was he saying? This half breed WAS part tame. He leapt out onto the ice. Despite his size, he moved fluently from one block to the next. It was like a wolf dance as he made his way to Anio. Suddenly he leapt past her, onto the leopard seal that was leaping out of the water with it's teeth bared. The two went under, with Kosei on the seal's neck. He was giving Anio the chance to get to the other side.

Anio stared back at the two as they went under, a shiver shaking her cold, wet body. It wasn't hard to figure out Kosei wanted her to get to shore, but she was paralyzed with fear over both the seal and the water. Well, at least the seal was gone for now... She looked down at the inky sea, so dark that she could hardly see the shadow flailing around beneath the surface. Kosei was risking his life to give her a chance. She wouldn't waste it.
Anio shoved off her block of ice onto the next, and her claws scraped as she strained to catch her footing. Before she could think of losing her grip and falling in, she jumped to the next one.
It wasn't as hard if she didn't think about the water. She could move almost as fluently as Kosei over the ice once she got the hang of it. She landed with relief on the edge of the shore, shaking her fur out and turning immediately around to look for the shadow. Where were they?

The water grew still, and the shadows faded. Even the ice drifting above the surface became motionless, as if time itself had stopped. It was impossible to say what had happened to Kosei or the leopard seal.... did the wolf truely give his life up for hers? ooc: Kosei will disappear for a bit in Anio's life, but don't worry, the two will be reunited eventually. Afterall, Kosei holds the secret to Paradise... For now, You should probably join this thread : www.paradiseisreal.proboards98.com/index.cgi?board=frozentundra&action=display&thread=224with Anio. Kosei will come into it eventually too.

occ: ok, thanks!
bic: Anio waited. She waited for hours. She really didn't know why, but she did. The same thing kept playing over and over in her mind, but she couldn't make any sense of it, no matter what she did.
Did a wolf sacrifice his life for hers?
She tired to rationalize it, to think of reasons why it might have looked that way, but was not, but the same sinking feeling came back to her time after time, and she could only stare at the still water in wonder. Eventually, her muscles grew sore from sitting in the cold, and the sun was beginning to slowly sink into the snowy hills so far away. She shifted, wincing at the stiffness, but got up anyways. She had to leave now, whether he had saved her or not. She wasn't going to sit here and freeze to death over the memory of a wolf. She walked until she was nothing but a speck on the horizon, and the gaping hole in the ice was lost to her over hills and hills of snow.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, the lake broke once more. A wolf emerged from the refrozen ice and crawled it's way out. Shivering and wet, Kosei collapsed in the snow. He knew he couldn't stay there - he had something to do. He tried to crawl onwards, but his wounds were great. He was exhausted....and he fell asleep.
